User database of VTT’s Owela service
4. Purpose of the Register
The purpose of the register is to enable communication between Owela researchers and users as well as create use statistics for research purposes. If the users allow it, they will receive email newsletters that tell about new projects in Owela. Register information is also used to track possible misuse of the service.
Users have allowed the usage of their information in Owela (Finnish Personal Data Act 8§).
5. Information Content of the Register
All information that is recorded of users is visible in the project registration form. Users choose themselves, which information they give of themselves. The required information is shown in the registration form; the other fields are voluntary.
- Username (always required)
- Password (always required)
- Email address (always required)
- First name
- Last name
- Year of birth
- Phone number
- The languages for email newsletters
- Public profile: introduction, picture and web link
- Projects that the user has joined
The users can choose the publicity of their information. By default only the username is public. In addition, there is information about the activity points and projects that the user has joined.
6. Regular Sources of Information
Register information is acquired when a person joins the Owela service or updates their information via Owela.
Information of projects and activity points is collected based on users’ activities in Owela.
7. Regular Handovers of Information
VTT does not give information from the register for other parties. VTT may handover information only according to the current law. Information from the register will not be given outside European Union or European Economic Area.
8. Protection Principles of the Register
A. Manual register
There is no manual register.
Data stored in information systems
The user database is maintained on a server. Access to the records is protected and limited to the administrators of Owela.
Users can ask to remove their information from the register by contacting the administrators of Owela.
